Scale
Status high / medium / low / very low combined with dynamics positive / stable / negative. Low status does not mean “bad Kiez”, but reflects structural differences in income, employment and education.

Calculation

Monitoring Social Urban Development 2025: overall index from two axes per LOR planning area. The status index (very low to high) weights income, employment and education. The dynamics index (negative, stable, positive) shows the change compared with the previous MSS cycle. Calculated by the Senate Department for Urban Development Berlin.

Coverage gaps

  • Planning areas with fewer than 300 residents or an outlier profile remain unclassified.
  • Aggregate data for around 7,500 residents each. Micro-locations disappear in the average.

What we don't show

  • Individual indicators such as the unemployment rate or the rate of welfare receipt are deliberately not shown in the address view. At address level they would be sharper and more stigmatising than the aggregate.
  • No rating as a “good” or “bad” Kiez. Low status reflects structural differences in income, employment and education, not housing quality.

Frequently asked questions

Night-time noise disturbs the sleep phases in which the cardiovascular system and nerves recover. The World Health Organization recommends a guideline value of 40 dB for night-time noise (LNIGHT). The Berlin noise mapping therefore reports LDEN and LNIGHT separately.
