Each response contains source, licence and as-of date.
WebMCP has been a W3C Community Group draft since August 2025: a browser-native JavaScript API for websites that deliver tools to LLMs. Not yet a Recommendation, and the spec is still changing.
Until WebMCP arrives natively in stable browser releases, the API runs through a polyfill that LLM browser extensions load, or that the site loads on mount.
Manifest discovery (convention, not standard): /.well-known/webmcp.json (mirrors /webmcp-manifest.json). Plain-text variant: /llms.txt / /llms-full.txt following llmstxt.org.
Spec status, browser support and instructions for Chrome Canary: /webmcp.
