Culture score: library, theatre, museum within reach
The Kiez score has a sixth dimension: culture. It measures how many cultural venues are within reach.
From libraries to clubs
The score counts density in the surrounding area. The first venue counts strongly, and further ones taper off:
- Libraries, theatres and stages, museums, cinemas.
- Galleries, community culture centres, art in public space, clubs.
The locations come from OpenStreetMap (ODbL). Stolpersteine and monuments deliberately do not count. They are memorial sites, not cultural addresses.
A dimension of its own, not in the overall score
Culture stands on its own and does not feed into the environment & infrastructure score. The reason: cultural infrastructure is heavily concentrated in the inner city. In the overall score, it would pull down every outer Bezirk. A low culture value only means "fewer cultural venues around the corner", not a judgement on the Kiez.
On the map
A new layer, "Kiez score · culture", per planning area, plus the individual cultural venues as points. In the inspector, culture appears as a sixth ring next to the five score dimensions.
Methodology
Weights, damping and data sources are described in the Methodology for the Kiez score.
