Cool places in hot weather: new layer and Heat Navigator
navigator.berlin now shows over 500 cool places in Berlin, each with an address and directions. It is a service built on open data. It complements the city's heat advice and does not replace it.
Live status and navigation
- Opening status in real time. Cinemas, libraries, swimming pools, museums, malls and drinking fountains, with information on whether they are open right now.
- One-tap navigation. Every place links directly to Google Maps or Apple Maps.
- Honest flags. Cool score from 1 to 5, "closed in summer", free or ticket, air-conditioned and step-free. Where a detail could not be verified, we say so openly.
The new Heat Navigator bundles this for mobile: share your location, see the nearest open places, navigate there.
Data and sources
Geometry and basic details come from OpenStreetMap (ODbL 1.0, © OpenStreetMap contributors), supplemented by editorial enrichment from navigator.berlin: cool score, air conditioning, opening hours and summer availability. The current heat warning comes from the German Weather Service (DWD).
The list may have gaps and relies on corrections. Venues can ask by email to be removed.
Methodology
The score rubric, summer flags and all limits are described on the Cool places layer page.
