Berlin Data Stories: pictures from open data

Atlas and Kiez Finder show Berlin as a map: noise, heat, green space, elections, for every address. That's handy. Still, something was missing for me. Much of the data has more to tell than a map can show.

That's what the Data Stories are for. Here I come up with my own pictures for the data. Each picture tells one thing about a district, a Kiez or a topic. You don't need to read a map.

First up is "Point and Line to Kiez": the twelve districts as compositions of shapes. More will follow, picture by picture, story by story. First the districts, then the Kieze, with single topics in between.

Ready to print

The pictures come as PDFs. Want your district on the wall? Download the file and have it printed, at any size.

Free to use

Code, data processing and pictures are MIT licensed. You may use, change and share all of it. The source data keeps its own licences, so every picture names its sources. Details are on the licences page.

Rules for every picture

  • One picture, one message.
  • A legend names shape and meaning. Colour alone never carries meaning.
  • Every picture has a text alternative and a source line.
  • Everything appears in German and English.

New stories show up in the overview.
