Kiez score · culture

Cultural access: log-damped density of libraries, theatres, museums, cinemas, galleries, community culture centres, public art and clubs nearby (OSM/ODbL). A separate dimension, NOT part of the overall score: culture clusters in the city centre, so it does not drive the headline score.

Calculation

Cultural access per planning area: log-damped density of collective cultural POIs nearby (number of facilities, the first place counts strongly, further ones level off). Library (weight 0.20, 1,000 m), theatre (0.15, 1,500 m), museum (0.15, 1,500 m), cinema (0.12, 1,500 m), community culture centre (0.13, 1,200 m), gallery (0.10, 1,200 m), public art (0.08, 800 m), club (0.07, 1,200 m). Source OpenStreetMap (ODbL). A separate dimension, NOT part of the overall score: culture clusters in the city centre, so it does not drive the headline score. Log damping prevents outer Bezirke from dropping to zero across the board.

Coverage gaps

  • Cultural venues from OpenStreetMap (crowdsourcing): individual locations may be missing or out of date.
  • The gap between inner city and outskirts is real: cultural infrastructure is concentrated in the city centre.

What we don't show

  • No rating of programme, quality or admission price of the venue.
  • Stolpersteine and monuments do NOT count (memorial/heritage, not a cultural amenity).

Frequently asked questions

Night-time noise disturbs the sleep phases in which the cardiovascular system and nerves recover. The World Health Organization recommends a guideline value of 40 dB for night-time noise (LNIGHT). The Berlin noise mapping therefore reports LDEN and LNIGHT separately.
